A Conference on Sacred Psychedelic Medicines, Spirituality, Decolonial Research, Responsibility, And Reciprocity

What is Sacred Medicines 2025?

Co-produced by Sunflower Sutras, the Confederacy of Amazonic Nationalities of Peru, and International Consciousness Research Laboratories, this intimate gathering brings together Indigenous Elders, scholars, and practitioners to collectively envision a more respectful, relational future for the psychedelic movement—one grounded in ancestral wisdom, cultural integrity, and spiritual reciprocity.

This gathering will serve as a vital opportunity for Elders, scholars, community organizers and practitioners to collectively envision a respectful future for the psychedelic movement—one in which honoring and remembering ancestral traditions becomes a guide to disrupt the problematic history of commodification, appropriation, and extractive research. In doing so, we aim to create a space where cross-cultural knowledge exchange flourishes and where Indigenous leadership is centered in shaping the ethics, language, and future of sacred medicine work.

A Unique Gathering

Unlike traditional conferences built around passive panels, this convening is rooted in ceremony, relationship, and reciprocity. Public morning plenaries will welcome all participants into guided conversations and teachings from Indigenous Elders and Bridgers, exploring the spiritual and political dimensions of Indigenous identity, the complexities of cultural appropriation, and the challenges of bridging Indigenous and Western worldviews. These sessions offer a space for deep listening and collective reflection, grounded in lived experience and ancestral teachings.

For those joining the full immersive experience, cohort learning communities form the core of the weekend. Participants will be placed in small, affinity-based groups where rotating Elders will offer teachings, spiritual practices, and relational guidance. These intimate settings foster meaningful relationships, inviting participants into a process of shared learning rooted in humility, mutual respect, and the ethical engagement necessary for working with sacred medicines.

Together, through ceremony, dialogue, and community, we will co-create a vision for sacred medicine work that is guided not by extraction or commodification, but by respect, reciprocity, and reverence—a vision that reconnects us to the land, to lineage, and to each other.
